Campfires are prohibited along Highway 1, including turnouts. Campfires are also prohibited on Naciemento-Fergusson Rd, Old Coast Rd, and other locations where posted.
Within campgrounds, campfires may be allowed in fire rings and other approved fire receptacles, depending on seasonal restrictions. Confirm with the agency, business or private property owner responsible for your location to determine if and where campfires are allowed. Camp stoves may be allowed with an applicable permit.

Vegetation fires, also known as wildland fires or forest fires, are a threat to Big Sur residents, visitors, structures, flora and fauna. Fires due to lightning and other natural events are largely unavoidable. However, fires caused by carelessness are avoidable.
